James Austin, CPA

Owner

James H. Austin attended Old Dominion University and Southern Connecticut State University. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics with a concentration in accounting. After working for a fortune 500 Company, Jim worked for two local accounting firms and obtained his CPA license, expertise and practical experience in the field of public accounting. In 1991, Jim purchased the accounting practice of George Borrows, PA. The firm has experienced many years of consistent growth, most of which is attributable to referrals from satisfied clients. Jim serves on the board of several local charities and nonprofit organizations and maintains active membership in the following professional organizations: American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants (CTCPA) National Association of Accountants (NAA) Jim lives in Ledyard, Connecticut with his wife and daughters. After tax season, Jim enjoys running at Bluff Point, golf and summer vacations in Ocean City, New Jersey.


SUSAN MACIONE, CPA

CPA, MSA

Susan received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Providence College. She earned her Master of Science Degree in Accounting from the University of Connecticut in 2008 and obtained her CPA license in 2009. Susan is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor. Susan began her career at Deloitte & Touche, LLP and was previously an accounting manager at O’Connor Davies, LLP. She has several years of experience with tax preparation and financial statement audits, reviews and compilations. She serves on the board of the River Valley Business Networking Organization and maintains active membership in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants (CTCPA). Susan lives in Waterford, Connecticut with her husband and son. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her family and friends.


Caitlyn Vessels

Senior Tax Accountant

Cait earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Central Connecticut State University in 2008 and became an Enrolled Agent in May 2013. Cait is a senior tax accountant with several years of experience with tax preparation, payroll and sales tax reporting, financial statement preparation, and client bookkeeping. She is a member of both the NAEA and the CTSEA. Cait lives in Ledyard, Connecticut and enjoys running, and spending time with her family.


Sarah Tefft

Staff Accountant

Sarah Tefft is a staff accountant at James H. Austin, CPA. Sarah has several years of experience with tax preparation, financial statement preparation, client bookkeeping, payroll and sales tax reporting. Sarah earned her Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Phoenix. Sarah is very involved in her church and it might surprise you to know that Sarah enjoys riding her motorcycle on weekends.


Angela Lathrop

Staff Accountant

Angela has several years of experience in the administration of public accounting firms, as well as in tax preparation, client bookkeeping, payroll and sales tax reporting. She has been a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor since 2011, and is a Connecticut Notary Public. She has recently completed her Associate’s Degree in Accounting at Three Rivers Community College. Angela has two young children and lives in Norwich, Connecticut. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.


Jennifer Trant

Staff Accountant

Jennifer Trant is originally from Baltimore, MD where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting and finance from the Notre Dame of Maryland University. Jennifer has several years of experience with tax preparation, client bookkeeping, payroll and sales tax reporting. As a navy spouse, she has moved all over the world and recently purchased a home in Ledyard. She stays very busy raising her three kids and during the off season enjoys teaching water aerobics at the local YMCA.


Nancy Watson

Paraprofessional

Nancy Watson is a paraprofessional with 44 years of tax and bookkeeping experience. Nancy assists clients performing many services such as quick books set up, bank reconciliations, payroll and sales tax quarterly services. Many of our clients know Nancy as a point of contact for their tax and bookkeeping needs. Nancy is also a Connecticut Notary Public and has been a part of our firm for 23 years. Nancy spends her time out of the office enjoying her six grandchildren and resides in Lisbon, CT.


Maureen Mailhot

Administrative Assistant

Maureen Mailhot is an administrative assistant at James H. Austin, CPA. Maureen is often your first point of contact at our firm. She will schedule an appointment for you or she will provide information about our products and services. Maureen enjoys running, jazzercise, and spending time with her family.
